Pre-Diabetes
Pre-diabetes is a term used for people who have an increased blood sugar level comparatively to the normal levels. Pre-diabetes takes place before developing type-2 diabetes. In other words, it acts as the symptom of developing type-2 diabetes. It is referred to as impaired glucose tolerance and impaired fasting glucose as well.
If not taken proper care of, pre-diabetes can transfer into type-2 diabetes within a period of 10 years. However, if a person wishes to make his condition better, he can do so by indulging in proper physical activities and weight loss. This is also reversible because it has the chances of getting back to its first situation or preventing and delaying, if proper care by maintaining healthy diet and regular physical activities, is taken.
The symptoms for pre-diabetes and diabetes are almost the same. There is a persistent feeling and urge of hunger pangs, extreme thirst, longing for frequent urination, vague vision, and regular skin itching and infections; which are similar symptoms as of diabetes. People who are likely to run into the risk of having pre-diabetes are usually those who are overweight, or have somebody diabetic in the family, or people suffering from anxiety and depression. The reason why the blood sugar level gets above-normal is the malfunctioning of pancreas. The body does not utilize the insulin properly and does not let the sugar in the blood to enter cells to convert it into energy.
The signs of pre-diabetes are gastrointestinal; the patient might suffer from digestive problems like gas pain, constipation and diarrhoea. The patient may feel hungry even after having a proper meal. The patient may feel weak and exhausted, even after having adequate rest and sleep.
Pre-diabetics also start getting mood swing problem. At one moment, they will be happy, and all of a sudden, they might get anxiety and depression without any reason. They might go through the problem of sore throats and muscular pains. Their toes and feet can get numbed if they keep standing. Their feet can get swollen up and cracked, as a result of which, the condition can worsen up.
The pre-diabetes patient may feel lethargic especially after the intake of some sweet. The patient might also suffer from bad breathing though they brush their teeth regularly. A pre-diabetic might suffer from high blood pressure. They can get such bruises or cuts which might not get cured or heeled in a normal period of time. The patient can stop losing weight, despite of the regular exercise and diet control.
A person after 45 should get regular check-ups. As most of the people are unaware of the signs and symptoms of pre-diabetes, they are unable to detect the disease. Pre-diabetes can be diagnosed through blood test.
If pre-diabetes goes ignored and neglected, it would end up in type-2 diabetes, which leads to heart stroke, kidneys failure, blindness and many others. Therefore, it is important to take action as soon as the patient is diagnosed with the disease.
