Diabetes Diagnosis
There are several symptoms that lead to the doubt of diabetes. Diabetes is a disease in which the blood sugar level tends to be above normal. The reason why this occurs is the lack of insulin in the diabetic patient. However, if regular insulin is injected, it can help a lot in keeping the blood sugar to a normal level.
The most common symptoms, a diabetes patient show are having frequent hunger pangs and feeling thirsty, unlike a normal person. They feel very low in energy and their health starts deteriorating drastically, as they are unaware of their disease and hence are unable to deal with their deteriorating health condition with proper treatment. The other possible effects this disease can have are sore throat and change in vision. There are many sources from where we can get information about it but a physician can best help in figuring out this disease.
There is another possibility of diabetes being genetically transferred. Factors like overweight, physical inactivity can lead to diabetes as the metabolism of human body gets disturbed. Diabetes usually occurs in young people, teenagers and young adults also, which is called juvenile diabetes. In this case, the pancreas stops producing insulin in the body that converts the blood sugar to energy. There is another type which is called adult onset diabetes, wherein insulin is not properly utilized by the body and stops converting glucose to energy. Gestational diabetes takes place in pregnant women.
The condition of pre-diabetes patient does not help to diagnose the disease. Though, they have chances of developing type-2 diabetes within a period of ten years. Proper physical exercise and weight reduction can help in delaying and preventing type-2 diabetes.
There are few tests that are conducted to diagnose diabetes and pre-diabetes. A fasting plasma glucose test is the one in which the suspected person has to starve for at least 8 hours before the test. This test is more feasible as it does not cost much. The best time to administer this test is in the morning for better results.
An oral glucose tolerance test is conducted to check the glucose in the blood of a person who has not eaten anything for about 8 hours and after the two hours that person is given a glucose drink. It is a less-preferred test. This test is used for measuring glucose of women having chances of gestational diabetes.
A random plasma glucose test measures the glucose without requiring fasting for long hours. However, this test is only used to test diabetes. It measures the glucose and checks the symptoms like longing for more urination, more thirst and hunger different from the normal one, losing weight without any specific reason, feeling low and boredom at times, change in vision and sores that do not get cured. Both, the glucose level and the symptoms, help in detecting diabetes. Diabetes should be made confirmed after another test on another day.
The tests to diagnose diabetes are to be administered at the age of 45 without prior symptoms of being overweight and other possible factors. Those individuals who are not older than 45 and are overweight, or have a diabetic family history, or are physically weak and lethargic for their age, should get a diabetes test done, to ensure proper health.
