Diabetes is a disease in which the patient suffers from high blood sugar levels. There are two types of diabetes, which are type 1 and type2. In the first type, the body does not produce enough insulin to keep the blood sugar levels in control. Insulin is the hormone which can control blood glucose levels. In the second type, the cells in the body do not respond to insulin like a normal person, and so the blood sugar levels remain high even if insulin is being produced.

Both the types of diabetes are chronic conditions, which mean that they cannot be cured. There is no medication that can completely cure diabetes. The only hope is to control diabetes so that the blood sugar levels do not reach critical levels. In most cases, people have to take medication forever and rely on insulin shots.

There are many symptoms of diabetes which can help you catch this disease in the early stages. If you wait too long to get treatment, then it may not be possible to control it in an effective manner. Moreover, diabetes also affects other organs of the body and if you wait too long to get treatment, it might be too late to save all the parts of your body that have already been affected by this disease.

One of the most common symptoms of diabetes is frequent urination, which is also known as polyuria. Diabetics often complain that they need to urinate many times in a day, and they also have to wake up many times during the night for that. If you are experiencing similar symptoms, which are not being relieved by drinking less water, then there is a big chance that your blood sugar levels may be out of control.

Diabetics also complain of frequent hunger and thirst, which might be to blame for the frequent urination as well. If you experience thirst or hunger even if you have already eaten or drank water, then it may be a warning sign that something is wrong.

Diabetes can also affect your eye sight. If there are high blood sugar levels for a long time in the body, then that can change the shape of the lenses in the eyes. This might alter your vision, and you might need to get glasses even if you had perfect vision before. If you already wear glasses, then your eyesight might worsen. If there is blurred vision and rapid deterioration of vision, then a test for diabetes should be done immediately.

Another common symptom of diabetes is water retention and swelling of the lower extremities of the body, such as the feet and legs. Moreover, wounds take much longer to heal in diabetic patients so that is something to look out for as well. Apart from that, nausea and vomiting may also occur.

If you have any of these symptoms, then it is critical to consult a doctor and check if you have diabetes.
